Two Portuguese clubs agree deadline day deal to exchange exciting Super Eagles youngster

There is a sizeable contingent of Nigerian stars presently in the Portuguese top-flight, and one could be added to that playing force on transfer deadline day

Portuguese Premier League club Portimonense have reached an agreement with Remo Stars for the signing of Nigerian winger Abraham Ayomide Marcus on loan for the rest of the season.

Marcus caught the eyes of many watchers of the Portuguese league last season after a string of excellent performances for CD Feirense, who signed him on loan from the Nigerian club.

One of Portugal’s major news outlets A Bola has now confirmed that Portimonense have won the race for the 21-year-old’s signature.

And as per Sic Noticias, Portimonense will take Marcus initially on a loan while retaining the option of permanently signing the Lagos-born winger for €500,000 on a five-year contract.

Portimonense have now announced the deal just before the summer transfer window closes at midnight of September 1.

Feirense, owned by Nigerian football enthusiast Kunle Soname – the chairman of Bet9ja and owner of Remo Stars- took a gamble on Marcus when they brought the then-teenager to Portugal on loan from his Nigerian club in 2018.

The versatile attacker had shown promise in the youth leagues before breaking into the first-team picture last season, scoring 11 Liga two goals and providing two assists in 26 games for the Blues from the Feira.

His impressive displays earned him a callup to the Super Eagles squad in June, where he featured as second-half substitutes in Nigeria’s back-to-back friendlies against Cameroon.
